This week was our final Chamber For the year with theme being Community Organisations. Guest speakers included Brian Collard from The Red Door Community Kitchen Inc, sharing the amazing work and support that volunteers & those that donate…in helping provide over 70 meals each week. Not just a place to come and eat but a safe place for people to come talk and have someone listen.
De-anne Douglas with the Blackroo Community Indigenous Corporation 2NM Powerfm Christmas Food and Toy Appeal sharing that when they started 23 years ago they supported 30 families and last year that grew to over 338 families provided hampers/gifts, with 52 meals delivered on Christmas Day to those people alone, isolated or suffering anxiety or mental health.
Upper Hunter Homeless Mary Spora also sharing heart-breaking stories of what they provide to the community for those in need due to being homeless or domestic violence. They have a local building provided to them from council which they make available for people to come in wash, shower, have a cuppa or a safe place to sleep.
Wrapping it up was Mary Croft and lovely Chanelle Wilson, an Apprentice Mechanic and currently Upper Hunter Woman of the year talk about her recent experiences, growth and opportunities for other females in nominating for this role in 2024.
